Day of Action- a BIG success

We had a wonderful turnout for our Green Schools Day of Action on Friday last, in spite of the poor weather!! Thank you to all those who lended a helping hand on the day, the children are delighted with our new school garden!

It was wonderful to see everyone working together on what was a really fun project! Pupils also got involved by holding a litter pick in the school grounds and carpark! We are really looking forward to our Green Schools inspection so we can show off our beautiful school!! A BIG ‘Thank You’ to all involved!!

We Need Green Superheroes like YOU!!!!

Great news everyone! Our Green Schools evaluation is to take place in late February. We have all been very busy reducing reusing and recycling at school and we hope that our hard work will pay off when we are awarded our first green flag!!

You can help out too by volunteering for our Green Schools Day of Action on Friday 10th Feb. We would really appreciate if you could all lend a hand to get our school grounds looking spic and span for our inspection!!! So bring a shovel and a smile and let’s get green!!!

January news!!

Happy New Year everyone!! Let’s make 2012 our best ever year!!! We are very busy this month at Wexford ETNS. It’s Human Rights month and we are learning all about our rights and responsibilities as children. Fiona O’Shea from Amnesty International will be coming to speak to us on Monday the 23rd of January.

Following this Tasha’s class will be taking a trip to the offices of the Ombudsman for Children in Dublin. We hope to establish our first Pupil’s Council also this month! Each student will be allowed to vote for a representative for their class in our democratic process.

We really have that holiday feeling here at Wexford ETNS! Our choir serenaded the staff yesterday afternoon with some beautiful festive sounds!!

Don’t forget our Cake and Craft Sale takes place in the school on Wednesday 21st December from 1.30-3.30pm! Remember all proceeds will go towards our school library so come along to support this great cause!

Well done and a huge thank you to everyone who braved the icy cold weather on Saturday to take part in carol singing on Main Street!

School closes this coming Thursday 22nd December at 12 noon and will re-open on Monday 9th January for our second term! We would like to take wish you and yours all the very best for the holiday season and we look forward to seeing you all in 2012!!!

Have you got the Xmas-Factor?!!!

Some festive carol singing will take place this coming Saturday 19th December from 2pm-5pm at AIB Bank, North Main Street. Please come along to support our school and sing a few tunes!! This event is being organised by our Parents’ Association and follows on from the very succesful table quiz which was held in the Thomas Moore Tavern last week! A big thank you to all who have helped organise these events!

Please come along and bring a woolly/santa hat and a big smile!!! It does not matter if you can’t sing a note- it’s all about having fun!!

Crafty Kids!!!

Our seasonal craft fair takes place in the school on Wednesday 21st of December from 1.30-3.30pm. All are welcome so please come along and help us to raise some money for some new books for our library! All of our crafts have been handmade in school and many are made from recycled materials and include saltdough decorations, handmade giftwrap and cards, reindeer food, advent calendars, angels and lanterns.

We are also holding a bake sale on the same morning! We would really appreciate if each family could bake or buy some treats to sell at our cakesale! All proceeds will go to our school and will help us to fill our library with fabulous books! Thank you for your support!!

Road Safety Month at Wexford ET

It’s Road Safety month at Wexford ETNS! We are learning all about using our roads safely. We have been learning the Safe Cross Code, making great posters and the Community Garda even paid us a visit!!

Our message this month is ‘BE SAFE, BE SEEN’ and the children in Aileen’s class are partaking in the ‘High-Glo Silver’ campaign which promotes the use of high visibility gear. All the girls and boys will each receive a high visibility vest and armband to wear on these dark evenings when out cycling or walking. Parents have also received a copy of the ‘Seatbelt Safety’ DVD from the Road Safety Authority- if you have not received a copy please call to the office for your complimentary DVD!

Harvest at Wexford ETNS

We are celebrating Harvest this month at Wexford ET. We collected lots of Autumnal things like leaves, conkers, acorns and fruit and vegetables from our garden to make our harvest display. Take a look at some of the interesting things we have on display!

Maths Week!!

Next week is Maths Week at Wexford Educate Together! We are partaking in many fun Maths activities and games which help us to see that Maths is a very important part of everyday life! Activities will include collaborative learning and games for all classes, maths and art, learning about famous mathematicians and finishing with maths trails for each class.
Parents can also get involved by partaking in our maths games and activities demonstrations. Teachers will show parents how to play some of the maths games that are to be used in class throughout the year. Following our Maths Week we hope to have parents as classroom helpers who can play these maths games with the children during morning activity time. If you are interested please let your child’s class teacher know!
We can’t wait to give our maths brains a really good workout next week!! In the meantime here are some of our favourite websites for you to use at home!
